Acquia Site Factory

Create a new site

Site Factory

Follow along as we spin up a new Webspark site in Acquia Site Factory

  1. Log in
Log into Site Factory at asufactory1.acsitefactory.com. If you don’t have an account, please contact us to get set up with one. You will need to use the “Log in with SAML” button.
  2. Navigate to your group
Once logged in, ensure that you have navigated to the Group that you would like to create the site within. You can do this by clicking on the “All my groups” collapsible menu item in the left-hand column and then selecting the group you want to use.
  3. Click on the “Create a new site” button
This is found at the top right of your group page.
  4. Choose an internal site name
Enter the name that will be used by Acquia to reference your site as its internal Site URL. We recommend using a short, lower-case name without any punctuation that will easily identify the site. If you have multiple sites on Acquia, you may want to employ a naming-convention already being used for your other sites, so that they are easily grouped and recognized (For example, W.P. Carey’s sites are prefixed with “wpc.”). If the name you have chosen is available, you will see a green circle with a checkmark, indicating that you can proceed.
  5. Select Webspark Stack
Select the Stack which will house your site. Most likely you will be using Stack 1, "Webspark," unless you have special circumstances.
  6. Click the “Create site” button.
Click "Create site". Wait for the site to spin up. It can take between 5 and 10 minutes.
  7. Don't click on the "Go to site" button
When the site finishes spinning up, you will see the following information and link to "Go to site": "Your site has been created. An email with your site's information has been sent to you at [email protected] Go to site" This is where things get slightly confusing. DO NOT click on the “Go to site” button, because it is currently broken. This is because we are using our own Single Sign-on provider, instead of what Acquia provides out-of-the-box. We are working with Acquia to get this functionality fixed.
  8. Navigate back to your group page
Rather than clicking on the “Go to site” button, you will want to navigate back to your group listing page in Site Factory. The easiest way to do this is to click the Acquia Site Factory logo, which will take you back to the Site Factory overview page.
  9. Click the "Visit" button on your new site's card
The site will not be immediately available in this interface, but it will appear within a minute or two. Once the site appears, click on the “Visit” button at the bottom of the card. This will take you to the correct URL for the site. The URL at the top left will also take you to the site, but it uses the internal Acquia link URL, which does not use “https” and is not compatible with ASU’s Single Sign-on provider, CAS. We recommend only using the “Visit” button, as this will give you the most consistent and successful experience. Eventually, when your site launches with its final domain, that will replace the Acquia link URL. Clicking on the “Visit” button will take you to your new site. Use the “Sign In” link at the top right of the global header to log in, as you normally would on any ASU site. For those who are using Stack 3, "ASU Drupal," your login experience will be slightly different. You will click on “Log in” at the top right, and then you will click on the “CAS Login” link, which will take you to the familiar ASU Single Sign-on form.
  10. Complete initial configuration
At your very first login, you will be prompted to fill out an “Initial Configuration” form. This is required to configure the site to work correctly. The site will not work if you do not fill out the form.
  11. Check that site has spun up correctly
After you finish filling out the form, it will disappear and you will be able to build and edit your site as normal. Note that the header should now contain the site name that you designated in the form. You should also now see the “ASU Themes” and “ASU Modules” buttons in the administrative toolbar. If you see these things, your site has spun up correctly.
  12. Begin building your new site
Congratulations! You have successfully spun up a new site in Acquia’s Site Factory. Check out video tutorials under the "Resources" menu on this site for tutorials on creating pages, adding content blocks, and more.
